OVERVIEW:
In a newly constructed, architecturally iconic council building, the design brief called for more than just convention — it demanded innovation. The architect’s vision to challenge traditional boundaries extended into the ceiling plane, resulting in a series of illuminated ceiling systems individually designed and manufactured for each floor. These integrated systems were meticulously engineered to accommodate fixed lighting parameters, fire sprinklers, and ceiling-hung planting, all while mirroring architectural elements from the floor below. The result is a seamless, functional expression that sits harmoniously within the broader acoustic treatment of the ceiling void.
Further enriching the interior narrative, a collection of custom-designed, floating triangular ceiling forms were developed for communal breakout spaces across the building. Each geometric installation was colour-matched to its environment, delivering subtle yet powerful visual cues that delineate zones and reinforce the identity of each space.
Complementing the interior scheme, a series of bespoke privacy screens were also executed throughout the building. These were designed as precision retrofits to the existing joinery framework, utilising a high-transparency, colour-defined fabric membrane. Each panel was custom sewn and tension-fitted to ensure a clean, seam-free aesthetic that maintains visual flow while delivering privacy and soft spatial definition.
Together, these elements demonstrate how bespoke fabrication and architectural fabric systems can elevate a project from functional to exceptional — integrating light, acoustics, privacy, and form into one cohesive design language.
