Imagine being lucky enough to look at a beach scene like this every day. I travelled to Thornton on the east coast of New Zealand's North Island for a family beach holiday. It was early spring, and we stayed in the local holiday park. As I made my way down to the beach early one morning, I remember thinking how beautiful the morning was. However, it was cold, and I remember I had to put my down jacket and gloves on whilst I was waiting for the sun to rise. A sea fog started to form at sunrise that defused the light beautifully.

The glacial water in the low-lying rivers in the foothills of New Zealand's South Island mountains is crystal clear. The water is a beautiful blue colour and appears fresh. I remember watching the water flow down the river at Milford Sound and being amazed by its purity. The patterns and textures in the river reminded me of how Monet painted his water.

I spent two weeks exploring New Zealand's South Island with the hope of capturing its Autumn scenery. After driving for two days, I arrived in the Mackenzie District late one night. I found a campsite close to the mountains. I will never forget this night because it was one of the coldest nights I had experienced on the South Island. The next morning, I explored the area for abstract Autumn scenery. I found a network of tracks through deciduous woodland. I spent many hours exploring the area for abstract scenery. I remember feeling amazed by the symmetry of the trees and the vibrancy of the leaves. It was an incredible experience and it is one I will never forget.

The Waikato District in New Zealand is a beautiful place filled with rolling green hills, trees and farmland. The Waikato is also known for thick fog in the Spring and Autumn months. I have lived in the Waikato for many years. I remember this morning well because it was thick and visibility was low. It was cold because the fog was blocking the sunlight. I felt like it was playing tricks on me because the landscape would move in and out of visibility with just a few footsteps. During the sunrise, the fog started to disperse, and the warm morning light painted the landscape gold. To photograph this scene, I had to access a vehicle bridge to be in a position that looked down the river. I remember thinking I had to work safely and quickly to photograph it. It was a beautiful experience, and I will never forget it.

During the sunrise, the fog diffused the light beautifully. To photograph this scene, I had to access a farmer's field. After speaking with the landowner, I entered it to photograph the trees. I remember being intrigued by their ornate form. The grass was long and damp, and my feet were wet and cold. I remember thinking I had to work quickly because the fog started to lift with the sunrise. It was a beautiful experience, and I will never forget it.

After driving for several days, I arrived at Milford Sound for the first time. I remember standing at the sound and looking at its high peaks and deep fiord formed by ancient glaciers. I remember the feeling that I had arrived at the world's edge. Milford Sounds is a World Heritage Site located in the Fiordland National Park. It is like stepping into a world that time has forgotten.

There are many waterfalls at Milford Sound. Stirling Falls is one of only two permanent waterfalls, and at 508 feet high, it is the second tallest. I remember standing at the front of a boat and being sprayed with water as it approached the waterfall. I was only a few meters away from the cliff edge when I noticed beautiful patterns in the water from the waterfall. It was an incredible experience and is one I will never forget.

The Marlborough Sounds lie at the South Island's northeasternmost point. The almost fractal coastline has one-tenth of the length of New Zealand's coasts. The steep, wooded hills and small quiet bays of the sounds are sparsely populated because access is difficult. Many of the properties are accessible only by boat. I remember driving along the narrow winding Queen Charlotte Drive and being amazed by the green hills, stunning ocean and beautiful boats. I arrived at Ngākuta Bay, and there was spectacular light on the surrounding wooded hills. I remember thinking that it could be memorable to set sail on an incredible adventure on one of the beautiful boats in the bay.

The water in many New Zealand rivers flows from the high glaciers surrounding the South Island's mountains, from the North Island's volcanic peaks, or underground springs. Most of the low lying rivers around the urban areas are contaminated by farming activities and soil runoff, and the water appears brown. However, the water at the source will appear translucent and blue and are not easily accessible.

Because of the subtle warm light and vibrant colours, autumn is a beautiful season to visit Mount Cook (Aoraki).  Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. It soars into the sky at 3,724 metres and is part of the Southern Alps mountain range that runs the length of the South Island. Mount Cook is a popular tourist destination, and it is a favourite challenge for mountain climbers. It is a prominent landmark in the central South Island region of New Zealand, and many stunning Glaciers surrounding it, including the Tasmin glacier, the Hooker Glacier, the Fox Glacier, and the Franz Joseph Glacier. The Tasmin and Hooker glaciers feed into Lake Pukaki. The name Aoraki traditions from the Ngāi Tahu iwi; an early name for the South Island is Te Waka o Aoraki (Aoraki's Canoe). New Zealanders Tom Fyfe, John Michael (Jack) Clarke and George Graham are known for the first ascent via the Hooker Valley and the north ridge on 25 December 1894.

In April 2022, I travelled to New Zealand's South Island to photograph the mountains in Autumn. On my way to Queenstown one morning, I had a magnificent view of The Remarkables mountain range. The partial low-level cloud was moving across the sawtooth-like mountain range, and the scene felt mystical. I found a safe place on the side of the road to park. The road was busy, and I remember thinking I had to work safely. It was a beautiful experience, and I will never forget it.

Milford Sounds is a World Heritage Site located in the Fiordland National Park. Milford Sound is a powerful landscape because of its peaks and deep fiord formed by ancient glaciers. Milford Sound is a coastal location in one of New Zealand's largest conservation areas. It is a wild and natural landscape at the bottom of New Zealand's South Island. It is New Zealand's best tourist location and is one of the world's most desirable places to visit. I visited Milford Sound for the third time in January 2022 with the hope of a reflection at sunrise. I knew my hope was ambitious because of its frequent high wind weather conditions, so I decided to stay for three days. My campsite was within walking distance of the sound, and I went there every sunset and sunrise for three days. Most days were windy, cloudy and wet. By the second day, I was starting to feel like my journey was a waste. The weather wasn't looking great for the third day. I woke up early and made my way to the sound. This morning was different because I could see stars in the sky. I arrived at the sound, there was no wind, and the tide was high. There was a beautiful reflection of the mountains in the sound. Moments later, the sun started to rise, and the light illuminated the scene with warmth.

The Punakaiki Pancake Rocks are on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island. The Pancake Rocks are water-sculpted layers of limestone. I remember thinking about how fragile they are. Over time, areas of the rocks have collapsed to form seawater blow holes. The Tasman sea is notorious for its large waves. I remember the seawater mist on my face and my camera lens. I stayed in the area for three days because I knew the weather was changeable, and Punakaiki is a rural location. I visited the Pancake Rocks every day at sunset to photograph them in the golden light. However, each day had its challenges. The first day I arrived for the first time, and I was late. The second day had terrible weather that blocked the sunset light. I arrived on time on the third day, and the weather was good. I remember watching the Pancake Rocks in the golden sunlight and feeling lucky to experience it.

After searching for many years, I finally found the perfect sunset over a landscape that resembles the Shire. In the Spring of 2022, I travelled to the East Coast of New Zealand's North Island. It was a cold night, and I remember waking up early in Napier feeling tired. Whilst I was exploring the area, I found Te Mata Peak. Te Mata Peak rises 399m and provides expansive views over Hawkes Bay and beyond. I returned later in the evening to watch the sunset. The landscape and trees reminded me of the Shire from the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies. In the distance, I spotted a large tree on a hill that overlooked the below hills. I remember that I arrived late, and sunset had started. I rushed over to the tree. I remember a feeling of excitement as I watched the play of the sunset light in the valley.

Near the Tongaporutu river inlet on the West Coast of New Zealand's North Island, coastal erosion has created unique and fragile 25-meter high sea stacks. The giant waves of the Tasman Sea, high tides, rain and wind have devastating effects on the coastline. Over time, sea stacks have come and gone. The Taranaki Sisters stand proud in the ocean. Accessing them is not easy and can only be done at low tide. I remember arriving at my location late. I remember feeling worried that I might get trapped by the incoming tide. People were around, so I proceeded along the river bank to the beachfront. The Taranaki Sisters are amazing to see up close. They tower high above the beach as the west coast waves crash into them.

The morning air is cool and foggy but quickly warms as the sun rises. I remember this scene well. There were pockets of fog in the valleys at sunrise. I remember watching this scene and being amazed by the contrast between the cold fog and the warm light around the tree. I had to pull over to the side of a busy country road. I remember thinking I had to work safely and quickly to photograph this scene. Moments later, the fog disappeared, and I remember feeling lucky that I photographed it as I returned to my car. It was a beautiful experience, and I will never forget it.

Mount Ngauruhoe is the third tallest volcano in New Zealand. Mount Ngauruhoe is an active 2,291m stratovolcano on the North Island. It is located in the Tongariro National Park, is an asymmetrical volcanic cone and, regularly emits steam and gases from the peak. It is made of layers from lava flows and ash deposits. Like all the volcanoes in New Zealand, it is the result of the Pacific Plate below the Australian Plate. It is part of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, where the earth's crust has been stretched and thinned. Recent research indicates the code started 7000 years ago. Ash and lava eruptions occurred on average every nine years but, there have been no eruptions since 1975. My journey to photograph Mount Ngauruhoe was an experience that I will never forget. I started the climb of New Zealand's tallest volcano Mount Ruapehu four hours before sunrise. It was winter, so I wore crampons and carried an ice axe. I remember feeling the cold wind. It was like a train of ice blowing through me. I wore a head torch so I could see where I was walking. After many hours of climbing in the dark, I reached my location. As I looked down on Mount Ngauruhoe, I remember feeling I was at a high elevation. It was a spectacular sunrise to watch, and I remember climbing down the mountain with a sense of achievement.

The West Coast of New Zealand's South Island is a mountainous terrain partially covered in temperate rainforest giants known as Te Waipounamou. This area covers 11,880 square kilometres. I remember driving through the Haast Pass and being amazed by its beautiful scenery. To the west is the Tasman Sea and the high Southern Alps lie East. The Westland Tai Poutini National Park was established in 1960 to protect this area. This area is home to some of New Zealand's famous glaciers, Fox and Franz Joseph. The Haast Pass weaves around the mountainous terrain through the temperate rainforest giants, and it is a road that requires careful driving. I knew I was travelling on a high-altitude road after I noticed the mountain peaks surrounded by clouds. Most of the trip was overcast and dull. However, as I descended the winding road, there was a break in the cloud. The scenery came to life as I found a safe place to park my vehicle. Moments later, the sunlight disappeared, and I remember feeling lucky to have experienced this beautiful place.

The West Coast of New Zealand's South Island is a mountainous terrain partially covered in a temperate rainforest. I remember walking around Lake Matheson to photograph a reflection of Mount Cook. It was early in the morning in April, it was cold, and my fingers were slow. On the way back to my vehicle, I remember seeing a farmer's field with trees surrounded by fog. Most of the plants on the West Coast are native and evergreen. I remember being amazed by the green reflected light onto the fog. The whole scene was shimmering like an emerald. I knew I had to set up my camera quickly because the fog was starting to lift.
