OVERVIEW:
Klein Architects approached OneFrame with a clear architectural intent — to introduce soft, natural light qualities into the interior environment through a series of large-scale, seam-free illuminated ceiling forms.
Central to the design was the integration of multiple 4500mm diameter bespoke CLIPSO Illuminated Ceiling Systems, strategically positioned across various floors to create visual anchors and reinforce spatial cohesion. These circular forms emulate the presence of natural daylight, enhancing occupant well-being while contributing to a calm, evenly lit interior.
Each ceiling element was engineered as a fully bespoke solution. OneFrame designed and manufactured precision aluminium framing systems in-house, tailored to navigate structural constraints within the ceiling cavity. This included modifications to accommodate services, coordination with existing infrastructure, and ensuring seamless integration into each unique location.
A recessed installation methodology was adopted, introducing a negative detail between the plasterboard ceiling and the illuminated CLIPSO membrane. This layered approach creates depth and contrast, allowing the light source to sit subtly within the architecture rather than dominate it.
In addition to the circular forms, a grand-format bespoke feature with radiused corners was developed — further extending the design language while maintaining consistent light diffusion and visual softness across all elements.
Leveraging CLIPSO’s translucent membrane technology, each installation delivers uniform, shadow-free illumination, eliminating visible joins while maintaining high optical performance. The result is a controlled lighting environment that supports both ambient and functional requirements without glare or spotting.
Leveraging its in-house manufacturing capability, OneFrame delivered a fully integrated solution — engineering, producing, and assembling each component of the system, from aluminium framework through to membrane and lighting. This end-to-end control ensured consistency in finish, accuracy in execution, and confidence that the installed result would perform as specified.
For installation efficiency, the system was modularised and supplied in a flat-packed format, allowing for streamlined handling on site while maintaining design integrity. Consideration was also given to ongoing access, ensuring the solution supports straightforward servicing and long-term usability.
The final outcome positions the illuminated ceiling as more than a lighting feature — it becomes a defining architectural element. By combining refined materiality with controlled light diffusion, the system enhances spatial quality while delivering a high-performing and visually cohesive environment.
