OVERVIEW:
When Stack Interiors approached OneFrame for the new OneNZ head office, the brief was clear — challenge convention and deliver a workplace environment that redefines expectations of contemporary office design.
The design strategy centred on a series of interconnected “hero” elements, each contributing to a cohesive spatial narrative while elevating the overall experience. Rather than relying on singular moments, the project integrates light, movement, acoustics, and materiality across multiple touchpoints throughout the environment.
A defining feature within the café space is a large-scale illuminated installation composed of concentric rings, abstracted from the form and typography of Rangitoto Island. Engineered and manufactured by OneFrame, the installation spans approximately 14m x 10m, creating a striking overhead presence that anchors the space while reinforcing a strong connection to local context.
Across open-plan areas, the lighting approach shifts to a more ambient and layered strategy. Traditional illumination is complemented by subtle, programmable light movement through OneFrame’s LUCENT and ANIMATE systems. This pairing introduces a softer, more atmospheric dynamic — delivering visual interest without overwhelming the workspace or compromising usability.
A more immersive experience is introduced through bespoke fibre optic ceiling installations. Designed, prototyped, and manufactured in-house, the recessed 3600mm and 2400mm diameter systems feature printed night-sky imagery, enhanced with programmed fibre optic sequences that simulate the movement of a satellite across the sky. The result is a highly considered feature that blends technical complexity with a calm, experiential outcome.
The reception environment continues this narrative, utilising ANIMATE colour-in-motion wall systems to create a dynamic yet controlled visual layer. The movement is intentionally restrained, providing engagement and identity without dominating the arrival experience.
Meeting and conference spaces were resolved using OneFrame’s RESONATE seamless fabric acoustic systems. These elements deliver both high acoustic performance and refined visual consistency, contributing to improved functionality while maintaining alignment with the broader material palette.
From a delivery perspective, OneFrame leveraged its vertically integrated manufacturing capability to produce the complete solution in-house — from aluminium framework through to fabric membranes and integrated lighting systems. This end-to-end control ensured precision, consistency, and alignment with the original design intent at every stage.
All systems were engineered for modularity and flat-pack delivery, enabling efficient on-site installation while maintaining the integrity of complex forms. Consideration was also given to ongoing access and serviceability, ensuring the solution supports long-term maintenance and adaptability.
The completed environment brings together lighting, acoustics, material finishes, digital integration, and biophilic elements into a unified architectural response. The result is a highly curated workplace that not only supports functionality, but creates a layered sensory experience — one that leaves a lasting impression on both the OneNZ team and those who engage with the space.
