When the once state-of-the-art headquarters of the American Geophysical Union was due for a major refresh, they turned to the professionals at Hickok Cole. Their goal was to create a unique and performance-driven space that would be Washington DC's first net-zero renovation.
One major design scope included an area on the top floor and main stairwell that would evoke the feeling of being in outer space. The versatility of the CLIPSO system provided all of the solutions needed to create this very unique scope. The architect wanted a multi-faceted, three-dimensional design with a custom colored acoustic fabric and fiber optic lighting. The Project Management team at CLIPSO provided Fabric Wall Concepts, a CLIPSO Certified Installer, with the necessary shop drawings. The framework would have to be rigid enough to hold the shape throughout the rather intricate installation process. It would have to be perfect or the final imagery of the shining facets would be lost. Says David Brower of Fabric Wall Concepts, "The goal was to create a multi-faceted stretched fabric ceiling above the monumental staircase where the architect envisioned being able to look up to a cluster of stars on the horizon, symbolic of the owner's geophysical mission. We are pleased to have met that goal."
CLIPSO is proud to have been chosen for the cover page of the February 2022 issue of Interior Design magazine. Thank you to both Hickok Cole and Fabric Wall Concepts for their collaboration with CLIPSO on this "out-of-this-world" project!
